Quilt Along Side Note

Hey everyone!! Hope everyone has had a great Father's Day weekend!!

I just wanted to touch base with everyone joining in on the quilt along and give you an update...

I have had 2 people mention that when piecing their quilt top this week that the measurements for the large sashing weren't working and they ran out of fabric. I am really sorry if this happened to you! With this being my first quilt along, I am learning as I go and I think next time I will be a little more generous on my yardage to give everyone more leeway. I just know how expensive fabric is and I didn't want anyone to be miffed that they paid so much extra and had a lot of scraps laying around afterwards- but I know how frustrating it is when you run out of fabric so I am soo soooo sorry if you happened to have issues this week.
Thankfully, I think some of you ordered a little extra for leeway so hopefully this hasn't happened to a ton of you.

With that being said, I went back I have changed some of the yardage on the supply list and I even made the sashings (borders of the quilt) smaller in the cutting and piecing of the quilt. So I know that that won't help any of you that have already ordered and cut your fabric, but my reason for doing it is so that anyone joining in late won't have the same issues.

Now... just to be sure so we don't have any issues in the up coming weeks- would everyone just lay out their finished quilt tops and measure how big it ended up being and then go ahead and check your fabric for the backing and make sure you are going to have enough. If you got the 4 yards- you should be totally fine. And like I said in my post, I used 3 3/4 yards and I was totally fine but I used the same measurements that I listed in the initial quilt along supply list as well, so I think we all just kinda sew differently and even a different seam allowance can make a huge difference. So just to make sure- check to see if you have enough before we start on Wednesday. Your backing just needs to be a couple inches bigger on all sides than your quilt top. If it is not and you are not wanting to order any more fabric, no worries!! You can trim your large sashing down as needed to make things work. But seriously- I am so sorry if anyone has had any issues!! I hope you can forgive me!!

Let me know if anyone has run into any issues or if things have worked ok for you!!

  1. So funny that you posted this. I was going to post on the other post about being 7 inches short on each end. No worries. I needed to go to the store tomorrow and buy my backing fabric. I'll definitely do the measurements to make sure I get enough of that. I'm enjoying myself so much, thanks for doing this!!!

  2. Hi Ashley. Perfect timing on your post. I'm just about to work on my sashing. This is my first 'real' quilt!
I'm so excited and having a blast. I'm already looking into my next one. I think I may be hooked now too : )
Thank you so much for this quilt along. I can't wait to see everyone's finished photos!

  3. I thought I had measured wrong! LOL I'm glad to know it wasn't just me! No worries, these things happen. I'm loving this so much that I blogged ahead for the next three weeks just so I could devote me time to my quilt. =) Thanks again!

  4. Please don't feel bad! This is only the second quilt top I've pieced so I'm SURE I did something to throw off the measurements a little :) Like the rest of the ladies, I'm having such a BLAST with this quilt along. In fact, I told my hubby last night I may get busy and make our parents their own quilts for Christmas! I'll have to email you to ask for suggestions for beginner quilt patterns :)

  5. I haven't sewn on my borders (a little slow here), but I have plenty of fabric so it should be fine. Mine is looking great and is so much bigger than I pictured it to be. :O)

    1. That's what I thought once I got mine together. A lot bigger than I pictured. But I love it!

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I honestly love reading every single one! If you have a question you would like answered- be sure to include your email so that I can get back to you!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a great day!
xoxo, Ashley
